In hip-hop, authenticity is few and far between. Too many rap artists believe “faking it until you make it” is a surefire way to success. After listening to “The Art of Storytelling” by rapper SG (Sergio Garcia), I believe he does not share that sentiment.

The Freehold, New Jersey emcee tells a compelling story about his life. “I once said to myself that I would never make it, with all this bully type shit knowing I couldn’t face it.” His rhymes about personal struggles with bullying exudes the pain of those experiences during that time period. As I continued to listen, I learned that SG contemplated suicide due to his suffering.

His courage to discuss these trials on “The Art of Storytelling” is what I appreciated most. After rapper, Logic released his groundbreaking single, “1-800-273-8255”  more people are realizing the importance of suicide prevention. SG will have more struggles as his life continues but at least he can rely on hip-hop to help overcome obstacles he faces. Listen to “The Art of Storytelling” now.
