The Steps to Body Talk

Friday night has proven to be one of the main party nights for the tri -state areas clubbers. The clubs and lounges set the right mood by dimming the lights allowing the rooms to be illuminated by the multi colored strobes that dance off the walls. The bartenders are ready for the requests and the DJ’s have prepared for the show they plan to put on for those who dance and vibe to their music. But over the recent months a refreshing and crazy sound has hit Jersey and NYC clubs as well as other states. So who is responsible for this undeniable energy and new aura simmering in the clubs? New artist PURE, is guilty of bringing the swagger that was missing from the clubs. PURE chopped it up with GSHH and gave us the steps to “body talk” and how his hit single has opened the door for him to bring more club bangers and good music to the people.

While in middle school and high school Pierre found himself competing in numerous talent shows. His love for singing drove him to these competitions and inevitably lead him to becoming a winner at the majority of the ones he participated in. Judges at the events always told him that his sound and overall talent was “pure”. After continuously being given the same compliment and synopsis over his talent, Pierre transformed into the rising star fans know now as PURE. With the adoption of a unique name that described his skills, all the south side Newark, New Jersey native needed now was a niche. For a music artist, doing that is easier said than done. However, PURE wanted to incorporate a characteristic that was solely present within him and not other artists in the game. With that being the case, PURE turned his attention to his environment. “I come from an aggressive environment, so my music has that vibe,” PURE said. For the past 20 years Jersey has seen itself adopt and embrace club music; which found its way to the Garden State via Baltimore and DC. The combination of that sound with PURE’s attitude created from his environment proved to be a deadly concoction that has been consumed by the people. “I want the name to evolve into something, but its definitely a fusion of Club and R&B,” PURE said.

Five years later the now 24 -year -old PURE, took that attitude to the studio and struck gold in the booth! “Body talk” is the hit song from PURE that has been traveling through the clubs and out of radio speakers everywhere. The song literally spread like an epidemic, the beat along with the vocals gives an accurate depiction of what goes on physically and mentally with inhabitants of clubs. “I wanted to make a song to symbolize sexy when you’re looking at a female dancing or vice versa. We not saying nothing, but we know what we thinking,” PURE said. Sayreville, New Jersey’s club Abyss which is ironically called Pure now and Deko Lounge are homes to NYC and Jersey’s premiere DJ’s. Taking that under consideration, PURE and his team hit the establishments heavy early May of 2010. Passing along the heat to Jersey DJ’s, “body talk” became an instant hit that they would spin before the NYC DJ’s hopped on the one and twos. After Power 105.1 and Hot 97 DJ’s continuously heard the record and saw that Jersey DJ’s had the upper hand with the crowd, they wanted to get in on the action. A month later in June, “body talk” was being spun on both Hot 97 and Power 105.1. Jersey, Jersey, Jersey; is hollered continuously by the DJ’s when the record drops, showing love and respect for where the joint originated. After the buzz grew, PURE found himself performing at both Deko and Abyss (Pure). No matter how many times he hears the song, the feelings do not change for PURE. “Its incredible, crazy, a lot of emotions and excitement. I get a rush every time,” said PURE.

Receiving a ridiculous amount of positive responses from “body talk”, has only pushed the young artist even more. With the addition of a production team that currently remains anonymous; PURE is set on creating more club bangers. “I want to leave people with an impression, whether good or bad. I’m looking for shock value, I want people to say what is this?,” PURE said. The 973 representative is focused and staunch in not being scene as a mere trend and residing in the game for the long haul. Since he dropped the “I am PURE” mix tape in May, PURE has been performing all over the tri-state, Chris Michaels (Woodbridge, NJ), William Patterson Univ. (Wayne, NJ) and the one and only Talay (NYC) which is renowned for its wild club scene.

In the end, from day one with his music grind; his goal was to put on for his home base. While giving some final thoughts on his career and goals, PURE voiced his opinion on Hot 97’s Summer Jam and what it means to him. “Summer Jam takes place in Jersey’s backyard every year and there are no Jersey artists. I want to be the artist that changes that. When I’m on stage and that record drops, I want the whole tri-state to explode not just Jersey”. With that being said, by the looks of things next summer PURE will have everybody in Giant stadium body talkin’!
